1 seed per pack. Seeds are pre-germinated and beginning to sprout. A famous African gourd, renowned for its huge fruits which can grow to 3+ feet long. It is found throughout West Africa and is typically grown for its shoots and seeds. The young shoots are used to make a traditional soup and the edible seeds are boiled and eaten. The plant also has important, traditional medicinal uses. A fast-growing vine, either trellised or on the ground. The vines are dioecious, so for fruit production both males and females are needed. A few rare specimens are monoecious. Grows well in hot, tropical climates. Will produce fruits in a single, long season but the vine is a perennial and can bear for several years. #4603
