A spectacular and rare Chrysophyllum from Brazil, once fabled to be highly esteemed by 19th century Brazilian emperors. Since then, the species has become increasingly rare, likely due to over harvesting and possible former political associations. It bears a sweetly flavored fruit, with a hard shell and soft, juicy, white to pink colored pulp. There appear to only be a handful of specimens remaining. Native to the area around Rio de Janeiro. Medium to large sized tree, can reach 25 m / 82 ft. Notable for its large, glossy and serrated leaves. Hardy to at least 32F / 0C. #5459
