5 seeds per pack. An exotic watermelon relative native to desert regions in Namibia and South Africa. Unlike the watermelon, it is a perennial, forming thick, water-filled, underground roots and a caudex that allow the plant to survive long dry periods. The large fruits, similar in appearance to a watermelon are generally bitter, but apparently are occasionally eaten after processing. The vine is also of use as a genetic cross to impart desirable traits into watermelon varieties. Unknown frost tolerance. Very rare! #4639
