It bears small fruits, with thin, reportedly edible pulp, and both the bark and roots are used to make edible infusions and alcoholic beverages. It is best known for numerous traditional medicinal uses. The branches are sometimes sold as toothbrushes and its wood is harvested for industrial purposes as well.
