It is an interesting and resilient tree, popular as an ornamental for its tolerance to salinity and sandy soils. The wood is harvested for woodworking, and has a long history of use in Polynesian cultures. An attractive tree for its yellow and orange flowers which casually resemble their cousin, the hibiscus.
