Clausena lansium

Small, 1" around, grape-like fruit with brown/yellow skin and white pulp having a good acidic sweet flavor.

Description

Small tree, rarely above 20ft.

Hardiness

The tree is subtropical or tropical and can usually survive brief temperature drops as low as 22-24F.

Growing Environment

Grow in full sun. Trees enjoy year-round water.

Propagation

Usually by seed. Seedling trees bear within 5-8 years. Wampee's can be grafted onto some citrus rootstock, but long term survivability is questionable.

Uses

Flesh is eaten fresh or used to make desserts. Fruit are particularly popular in parts of China.

Native Range

Native to Southern China and parts of Vietnam.
