Phyllanthus emblica
a.k.a. Indian Gooseberry
Small, yellow, berry-like fruit with a very acidic flavor. The emblic is extremely popular in parts of Asia.

Description
Large tree to 60+ft. The small leaves are borne on branches in a manner similar to a mimosa. Emblic's are sensitive to day length and flower and fruit when days are long.
Hardiness
The emblic is subtropical and will withstand frosts as well as hot temperatures.

Uses
Fruits are often eaten raw, sprinkled with sugar. They are also baked into desserts, and used in preparing beverages.
Native Range
Native range extends from Pakistan through southern China. Emblic is also grown commercially in much of southeast Asia.
