Orange Apple Cactus
Cereus validus
Similar to the common apple cactus but with an orange colored fruit. The fruits have white, edible flesh with a mildly sweet flavor. The plants themselves also make attractive landscape specimens.

Description
A columnar cactus growing to 10-15 feet. Has 4-5" stems that show occasional branching. Flowers are white, up to 10" long, and bloom during the night.
Hardiness
Hardy to light frosts, probably to 28-32F.
Growing Environment
Grows well in full sun. Need minimal water once established and is not too picky about soil requirements.
Propagation
By seeds or cuttings.
Uses
Most of used as a landscape ornamental, particularly for arid gardens. The fruit is edible as well.
Native Range
Native to Eastern Bolivia and Argentina.
