Native to Tropical East Africa, Grewia similis grows as a straggling shrub or small tree, reaching up to 3 meters and sometimes exhibiting a climbing habit. Yields small, orange-red, sweet, edible fruits that are consumed fresh or used as a sweetener. Thrives in a range of dry tropical biomes, from coastal thickets to mountain forest edges, it's notably a popular food for the eastern black rhinoceros.
