Illicium verum - Star Anise Seeds

10 seeds per pack. Small Asian-native tree which yields aromatic fruits and seeds. Related to the magnolia, the tree is also a pretty ornamental with eye-catching white-yellow flowers. Hardy to the low 20's (F) Can be difficult to germinate. NOTE: This species should be considered ornamental and is not for eating. While seeds are believed to be for the herbal I. verum, the species can cross with a very similar species that produces potentially toxic fruits. Star Anise should never be eaten unless properly identified to be free of naturally occuring toxic compounds. #959
