Cucurbita maxima
A distinctive heirloom squash popularized in New England. Its large fruits have a teardrop shape, blue-gray skin and can weigh up to 40 pounds! Flesh is sweet, golden and perfect for pies and baking.

Origin
Heirloom, dates to the late 1800's or early 1900's when it was introduced by the Gregory Seed Company. The original strain goes back several decades prior and may even have made its way to New England from South America.
