Giant Iochroma
Iochroma grandiflora
The largest flowering Iochroma and a sight to be seen when in bloom! The large blue-purple flowers are easily twice the size of most of the other common Iochroma's.
Seed Availability
Seeds are not available for the Giant Iochroma. Please visit our seed store to view current selections.
Description
A shrubby evergreen tree to 6-10ft. The flowers are born in large clusters of up to a dozen or more. Fleshy, green-white fruits follow and are inedible.
Hardiness
Hardy to 25-30F.
Growing Environment
Grows best in cooler, relatively frost-free climates. Doesn't do well in hot areas, with temperatures commonly in the 100's. Will not survive hard freezes. Seems to do well in container culture.
Propagation
By seeds, by rooted cuttings.
Uses
An amazing ornamental and usually planted as such. Great in containers and very nice in smaller spaces.
Native Range
South America.
