Tzimbalo
Solanum caripense
A very rare fruit that is quite similar to the pepino, but having round fruits growing to a bit over 1" wide. Like the pepino, the fruits are cream colored, with prominent purple stripes. Flavor is melon like, with some sour and tart overtones.

Description
A shrubby plant growing to a couple feet. Growth habit tends to be more compact than the pepino and the plant does well in containers.
Hardiness
Likely not too frost hardy. Not freeze hardy.
Growing Environment
Can be grown as an annual provided a long enough warm season. Grow in full sun, water regularly.

Fruits are eaten fresh.
