Euterpe edulis
A slightly lesser known acai palm having round, deep purple colored fruits to about 1/2". The fruits are fairly similar to the more common acai palm and this species is popular for its edible palm heart.

Description
A medium sized palm growing to 15-30 feet. Like other Euterpe palms, it features a large green crownshaft as well as huge leaves.

Thrives in a humid, tropical environment Needs regular watering. Grow in full sun.
Propagation
By seeds.
Uses
The fruits are eaten fresh and can be used much like the acai. The crownshaft is also harvested and sold as palm heart.
Native Range
Native to the Atlantic forest regions of Brazil.
